Der Rohstoffe-Sektor auf eFinancialCareers enthält Stellenangebote bei Investmentbanken sowie bei Commodities-Handelshäusern.
Der Überbegriff „Commodities“ umfasst eine breite Auswahl unterschiedlicher handelbarer Produkte. So zählen dazu Kohle, Metalle, landwirtschaftliche Erzeugnisse und Agrarrohstoffe („Soft Commodities“), Gas und Strom, erneuerbare Energien und Emissionsrechte sowie Rohöl und Mineralölprodukte.
Häufig produzieren, lagern oder vertreiben Commodities-Handelshäuser die Produkte selbst, daher haben sie auch Bedarf nach unterschiedlichsten Mitarbeitern in. Wir konzentrieren uns hier auf die Finanzberufe, die in Bezug zu den Handelsaktivitäten stehen, z. B. Commodities Broker-Stellen.
Der Hauptaugenmerk der Commodities-Handelshäuser liegt auf dem physischen Handel mit Rohstoffen. Investmentbanken befassen sich hingegen größtenteils mit der Emission und dem Handel mit Rohstoff-Derivaten. Derivative Produkte wie „over-the-counter“ (OTC) Derivate oder Commodity Futures sind ein wichtiger Weg für landwirtschaftliche Produzenten und andere Hersteller, um sich gegen Preisschwankungen abzusichern, und ein Weg für die Kunden von Investment Banken, sich ihrerseits gegen Risiken abzusichern.
Trotz dieser grundlegenden Unterschiede fallen Stellen im Bereich Commodities generell in die folgenden Kategorien:
Trading: Commodities-Trader spezialisieren sich auf ein bestimmtes Fachgebiet, das generell in eine der oben genannten Produktkategorien fällt. Ihre Funktion besteht in der Verwaltung eines Handelsportfolios im Auftrag ihrer Firma oder ihres Kunden. Dabei kaufen oder verkaufen sie Rohstoffe oder Rohstoff-Derivate. Sie führen auch regelmäßige Marktanalysen und Research durch, auf denen ihre Trading-Entscheidungen basieren, und es wird von ihnen erwartet, sowohl eine langfristige als auch eine kurzfristige Sicht auf den Markt zu nehmen. Trader, die mit den physischen Produkten arbeiten, müssen sich auch Fragen wie Transport, Lagerung und Lagerbeständen widmen sowie der Frage, wie das Preisrisiko mithilfe von Derivaten gesteuert werden kann.
Sales: Sales-Mitarbeiter werden größtenteils von Investmentbanken eingestellt. Bei einer Sales-Funktion im Bereich Commodities geht es hauptsächlich um die Entwicklung von Kundenbeziehungen. Dabei kann es sich um Rohstoffproduzenten handeln, die Derivate zur Steuerung ihrer Preisrisiken benötigen, oder aber um einfache Konsumenten. Sales Mitarbeiter im Bereich Commodities benötigen gute analytische Fähigkeiten und müssen sich stets über die neuesten Entwicklungen auf dem Rohstoff-Markt und über deren Auswirkungen auf dem Laufenden halten, damit sie den Kunden ihre Begründungen für Trading-Entscheidungen und -Strategien erklären können. Commodities-Sales-Mitarbeiter verfassen beispielsweise Verkaufspräsentationen für Kunden.
Structuring: Diese Funktion erfordert einen hohen Grad an statistischer Analyse und ist ein mathematisch geprägtes Berufsfeld. In Junior-Positionen stellen die meisten Banken ausschließlich Absolventen mit einem Master- oder Diplom-Titel in einem mathematischen ausgerichteten Fach ein wie z.B. Physik. Wie der Name schon sagt, involviert ein Structuring-Beruf die Schaffung von strukturierten Commodities-Produkten für Kunden sowie die Durchführung statistischer Analysen zur Verfolgung ihrer Performance. Beispiele für diese Produkte umfassen Commodity Linked Notes oder Commodities Baskets. Je nach dem Unternehmen zählt zur Structuring-Funktion ggf. auch die Schaffung maßgeschneiderter Lösungen je nach den Hedging-Bedürfnissen eines (meist Unternehmens-)Kunden.
