Die richtige Technologie ist oft der entscheidende Faktor, der einem Finanzdienstleistungsunternehmen den Vorsprung gegenüber seiner Konkurrenz verschafft. Sie kann dem Unternehmen auch zu Kostenersparnissen verhelfen. Daher überrascht es kaum, dass Firmen im Finanzsektor viel Geld ins IT-Recruitment investieren.
In Investmentbanken sind der Handelssaal und alle, die damit zu tun haben, wichtige Nutzer von Technologie. Ob es nun um den tatsächlichen elektronischen Kauf und Verkauf von Finanzprodukten geht, um deren Bearbeitung durch Smart Order Routing Systeme oder um die Kommunikation, die den reibungslosen Ablauf von Trades in kürzestmöglicher Zeit sicherstellt – Technologieprojekte im Wert von mehreren Millionen von Euro oder Franken sind für den erfolgreichen Betrieb unabdingbar.
Im Finanzdienstleistungssektor fallen IT-Karrieren generell in einen von fünf Bereichen: Entwicklung, Business Analyse, Projektmanagement, Infrastruktur und technischer Support.
Entwickler sind an vorderster Front der IT-Abteilungen tätig. Obwohl ein Teil des Aufgabenbereichs die Entwicklung neuer firmeninterner Systeme darstellt, die Entwicklern mit Kenntnissen von Java oder anderen Programmiersprachen gute Berufschancen offerieren, kaufen viele Banken die Software bei Drittanbietern von der Stange ein. Der Beruf eines Entwicklers schließt daher oft die Anpassung erworbener Software an die spezifischen Bedürfnisse des jeweiligen Unternehmens ein, damit sie in bestehende Systeme integriert werden kann.
Bei Flow-Produkten wie Aktien oder Devisen lautet das Ziel der Entwickler „niedrige Latenz“ oder die Verminderung der Zeit, die zur Ausführung und Bearbeitung eines Trades erforderlich ist.
Business Analysten agieren als Kontaktpersonen zwischen der IT-Abteilung und der Geschäftsseite des Unternehmens und erkunden, wie Technologien zur Verbesserung der Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der Bank eingesetzt werden können.
Projektmanager übernehmen hingegen die Verantwortung für ein neues Projekt, nachdem es grünes Licht bekommen hat. Projektmanagement-Stellen sind strategisch und involvieren Planung, Strukturierung und letztendlich die Fertigstellung des Projekts. Projektmanager arbeiten mit einem Team von Entwicklern zusammen, sind in Kontakt mit Drittanbietern und sie sind dem Unternehmen gegenüber verantwortlich, falls ihre Pläne fehlschlagen.
Mitarbeiter in technischen Support-Stellen lösen Probleme, die z.B. im Handelssaal auftreten. Infrastruktur-Stellen befassen sich mit den praxisbezogenen IT-Fragen – alles von Servern und Betriebssystemen bis hin zu Datenbanken.
